Why use coal tar emulsion pavement sealer?
Asphalt pavements, left unprotected, will be damaged and eventually destroyed by the effects of thermal and UV induced oxidation, erosion caused by moisture, gasoline and oil drippings, salt and chemicals. Coal tar emulsion pavement sealers, due to the refined tar’s unique chemical and molecular structure, are inherently resistant to these elements and provide protection superior to asphalt based , or solvent based pavement sealers. Regular application of coal tar emulsion pavement sealers will extend the life of the pavement and protect the investment it represents.
Why should the cracks in asphalt be sealed ?
The most important reason to seal the cracks is to prevent vegetation from growing in them. You also don't want moisture to penetrate under the asphalt surface.
As the roots on vegetation get bigger, the plant root can actually push the pavement up and create even more damage. This breaks the pavement surface and other problems begin occurring.
Even worse, if water penetrates the crack and seeps under the asphalt surface, it will create a soft spot which will create a Pot Hole. Despite Global Warming, this is northern Indiana and the ground tends to freeze from time to time. This moisture under the asphalt surface will freeze and push the pavement up .
All of these conditions can usually be avoided by practicing good maintenance and keeping these cracks sealed as they occur.
